As many know, some Dens schedule activities on the first Friday of each month. These activities are often conducted in the Church meeting spaces. However, this month the first Friday is the Good Friday holiday so this is a reminder that no den activities should take place in the OLS Church building.

Primarily for our Catholic scouts, Holy Thursday presents a unique opportunity for an expression of our faith that you may not have experienced before. At 7 PM that night, the parish celebrates (AT ST ANTHONY CHURCH - NOT OLS) the Mass of the Lord's Supper. This is a special celebration that we invite all to come and participate in. This mass (like all the Holy Week services) offers some special activities that are not seen at any other time during the year. The Mass of the Lord's Supper commemorates the Last Supper - when Jesus instituted the Eucharist and the priesthood. This is remembered in a special way as the feet of 12 parishioners are washed by the priest just as Jesus washed the feet of the apostles at the last supper - to show how we are to love and serve one another. After mass, the Eucharist is left exposed on the altar in what is called a Monstrance - so all can see the sacred Host that we believe is transformed to the Body of Christ through the words of consecration at mass. Catholics traditionally pay visits to the Lord in the Eucharist between the end of mass (sometime between 8:15 and 8:30) and 10:45 PM - at which time I will close the adoration with Night Prayer - a part of the Liturgy of the Hours - the prayer of the Church all clergy pray - and all faithful are encouraged to join in. Between the Hour of 8:30 and 9:30, I would like to specially invite all Scouts and a parent to join us for some quiet time with Jesus. There is no fixed prayer or activity. You can come and go as you please. This is NOT an “official” scout activity. There is no scout leadership assigned – so parents must be there to supervise their children. Parents with younger scouts (Tigers and Wolves for example) might want to especially consider whether this activity works for your son. What there is – is just quiet time with Jesus. Pack 38 invites our member scouts and families to join us for the annual Cub Scout Blue & Gold Dinner celebration. Help us celebrate the anniversary of scouting and cheer on our graduating scouts as they bridge into Boy Scouting. This year’s entertainment will be The Fabulous Chinese Acrobats!

Each year Troop 38 participates in a week long camping trip at Camp Ockanickon Scout Reservation in Pipersville, PA (about 40 minutes away). If your son is crossing over to Troop 38 and is interested in attending, you will get the best rate by paying in full by April 22nd. The price is $392 for the full week including all meals and activities. After 4/22, the price goes up incrementally as the date draws closer. Please complete and return the attached reservation form by 2/19 with a $50 deposit to reserve your son's spot. Forms received after 4/22 will be accepted based on availability.

Important announcement. There is no Pack meeting on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012. This February the Pack meeting activities will be part of the Blue & Gold celebration on Sunday, Feb.
